  • Elektrische verlichting

Vacancies for Environmental research LCA

Datum: 2011-11-16 19:52:40

The Mobility and automotive technology research group (MOBI) at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) has an internationally recognised, 35-year long tradition of R&D on electric and hybrid vehicles, making it the prime electric vehicle research facility in Belgium. In its Faculty of Engineering, the VUB department of Electrical Engineering (ETEC), has an internationally recognised tradition of R&D on electric, hybrid and fuel cell vehicles. MOBI is active in the field of innovative and environmentally friendly vehicle technologies, mainly concerning the characterising, testing and demonstration of electric, hybrid and fuel cell electric vehicles and their components. Passenger transportation is responsible for large quantities of pollutants in the atmosphere. During the R&D of tomorrow's technological solutions of our current mobility problem, it is of utmost importance to take the environmental externalities into account in order to create a sustainable solution. MOBI has high-end expertise, on both national as Euroopean level, in assessing the environmental impacts throughout the full life cycle of a vehicle (starting from raw materials, production, usage toward end-of-life treatment).

Environmental PhD Researcher

Job description: You will be involved in the assessment of the environmental im mpact of new and sustainable solutions for the transportation and energy sector. The focus will be on the full life cycle of electric and hybrid electric passenger vehicles. Based on the experience and state-of-the-art of the MOBI team you will be developing software models to compute the environmental impacts. The candidate will be involved in applied research projects. MOBI has an extensive expertise in Life Cycle Assessments of vehicles and searches a candidate who is willing to bring new knowledge in the field of software development. You will actively participate in the European and Belgian research projects MOBI is involved in, including the attendance of project meetings and conferences. You are willing to carry out the research work in order to obtain a PhD degree in Engineering Sciences.

Profile: Master of Science in Engineering, or Master of Science with specialisation in informatics or environment , electricity or electrochemistry. A thorough knowledge in a programming language and/or modelling and computation software (Matlab, Labview, JAVA or .NET) is considered as a distinct advantage. Expertise and experience in sustainable engineering and/or Life Cycle Assessment would be an asset. However, applicants with no previous track record in environmental assessments are also welcomed. They can benefit from the in-house expertise in LCA, guaranteeing a steep learning curve. You are an organized team player and are not scared to take initiative. You are fluent in written and spoken English and are willing to travel occasionally abroad. In addition the ideal cand didate should have basic knowledge of or affinity with:

  • Environmental assessment and ecodesign
  • Enviro-informatics
  • Software-based modelling
  • Statistics

The job opportunity is open to candidates with and without professional experience.

Offer: MOBI offers the opportunity to obtain a PhD degree in a high-tech international environment and in a scientific domain which is currently at the the cutting edge of automotive developments. Opportunities for further education and training are given. Financial advantages include an attractive salary topped with fringe benefits such as free commuting by public transport and free hospitalisation insurance. MOBI is a multidisciplinary team in Brussels with over 40 motivated researchers.

Vacancies for Battery research

Datum: 2011-11-16 19:52:09

The Mobility and automotive technology research group (MOBI) at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) has an internationally recognised, 35-year long tradition of R&D on electric and hybrid vehicles, making it the prime electric vehicle research facility in Belgium. Since traction batteries are key components in current and future electric vehicles, MOBI has made the study of newly-developed traction batteries one of its main research objectives. In that context MOBI has state-of-the-art facilities available for thorough battery testing, and it collaborates with several main actors in the automotive industry as well as with advanced battery developers. For further research in the domain of battery modelling and -testing MOBI is looking for the following positions:

Electric / Electrochemical PhD Researcher

Job description: You will be involved in the testing of advanced traction batteries developed by our industrial partners. Based on the obtained experimental results you will be developing electric- and thermal battery models in Matlab-Simulink™ as well as derived functions such as state-of-charge and state-of-health. These functions will serve as an input for our industrial partners for the development of battery management systems and electric propulsion systems. You will actively participate in the European and Belgian research projects MOBI is involved in, including the attendance of project meetings and conferences.
